What the $99 actually buys

Why the price is on the website at all

Most companies in this trade will not publish a number, and the reason is not that the work varies too much to quote. It is that a price given at your door, after your dryer is already pulled out and your afternoon is committed, is a far stronger position than one given over the phone.

We would rather lose the call than run that play. If $99 is more than you want to spend, you have learned that for free rather than after somebody is parked out front.

The lint trap housing is the one people skip, and it is the one that costs them

We push this add-on harder than the other one, and here is the honest reason why.

The screen lives in a slot, and that slot is the mouth of a cavity extending down into the body of the dryer. Particles finer than the mesh go straight past, as does everything that sloughs off the screen when you withdraw it, and all of it settles in that cavity permanently. There is no way for it to clear itself and no maintenance schedule attached to it.

So it fills. For five years, ten, twenty. And because it sits at the intake side of the system, it is choking airflow before the air ever reaches the duct you just paid to clean.

How we actually clean it

It depends on the machine. On some dryers the housing comes apart, and we take it apart, clean it properly and reassemble it. Others exhaust differently and cannot be opened up that way.

For those we use an air rod that blasts the packed lint out of the cavity with a vacuum box connected on the other side, so what we free up gets captured rather than redistributed into the machine or the room. Either way the cavity ends up empty, which is the point.

We have found units where that housing had never once been cleared, and the wear from years of running that hot came to more than the replacement cost of the dryer.

That is not a sales line, it is a thing we see. A heating element, a thermostat, a blower wheel and the labor to reach them adds up fast on a machine that is already ten years old. At that point the tech tells you it is not worth fixing, and you buy a new dryer that will do exactly the same thing on the same untouched housing.

$98 now, against a machine that costs eight hundred to fifteen hundred to replace, is not a close call.

Worth it if your dryer is more than five years old, you have never had it done, you have pets, or it is in a rental running heavy laundry volume.
Skip it if the machine is genuinely nearly new.

Should you get the hose upgrade?

The transition hose is the short flexible length running from the dryer to the duct in the wall. Ribbed foil has two defects. It collapses when the machine presses against it, and its corrugations trap lint on every ridge. Rigid transition duct suffers from neither.

In Tempe this shows up mostly as an age problem rather than a space problem. In the older housing it is frequently the original hose from decades ago, brittle and half collapsed on its own. The code also leans this way: dryer exhaust ducts are meant to be smooth-walled rigid metal, with the flexible transition kept short rather than doing the work.

Worth it if you have foil flex, or the dryer sits tight to the wall.

If you are waiting until the dryer gets slow to call somebody, you are not due for a cleaning. You are already about a year past due. A slow dryer is not the trigger, it is the symptom of a run that has been restricting airflow and cooking the machine for months before anybody noticed.
